In the past few weeks, I've become a huge fan of the latest in social media.
Pinterest is a virtual pin board where you have various boards separated by categories and you add images or videos (linked to their parent sites). So far, it's been a great website for me to find and post recipes, do-it-yourself ideas, and fashion items. There are pre-listed categories from Pinterest like architecture, geek, sport, music & books, and more! The site was launched in March 2010, but it's just recently picked up interest. According to Hitwise, Pinterest had 11 million total visits per week.
To start an account, you either have to register & take your place on their waiting list OR if you know someone who already has an account, you can send them an invitation. I received my invitation from BigBearsWife. You can then connect your account through Twitter and/or Facebook to post your "pins" and "re-pins" to those sites. You can even add a "Pin It" button to your bookmarks toolbar so that, when you're on a website and you see something you'd like to post (for example, a dress you might like on ModCloth.com), you can click the "Pin It" button, choose the image you want to use, and it'll link that image right to that website. Anyone who looks at the image on your board can then click on the link provided and go straight to the site. It's really simple! You can also add a price listing simply by typing the cost of the product in the item description. There are plenty of Pinterest users who've set up their boards as a virtual store to sell their products.
If anyone wants a Pinterest invitation, please leave a comment or send me an email (to the address in the sidebar). Also, you can view my Pinterest account HERE.
